1.G7 commits to Net Zero Emissions by 2050

  • Net zero emissions refer to achieving a balance between the greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere and those removed from it.
  • Bhutan and Suriname are currently the only countries that absorb more CO2 than they emit.
  • The Paris Agreement of 2015 set the temperature goals of 15oC and 2°C.

2.The market value of all companies traded on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in India recently passed the $5 trillion mark.

  • Bombay Stock Exchange is the oldest stock exchange in India as well as Asia.
  • Bombay Stock Exchange was established by Premchand Roychand in 1875.
  • It is located on Dalal Street, Mumbai and lists over 6000 companies.

3.IIT Guwhati and Columbia University developed an Optical Nanopatterning Process.

  • Nanopatterning is a complex method for making designs on materials that are very small, measured in nanometers.
  • One nanometer is equal to one billionth of a meter.

4.A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal will intensify into Cyclone Remal, reaching Bangladesh and West Bengal coasts as a severe cyclonic storm.

  • The cyclone, named Remal, signifies “sand” in Arabic.
  • A cyclone is a system of winds rotating inwards to an area of low barometric pressure, with an anticlockwise (northern hemisphere) or clockwise (southern hemisphere) circulation; a depression.

5.Astronomers, using NASA’s TESS have discovered Gliese 12b.

  • Gliese is a temperate, Earth-sized exoplanet orbiting the red dwarf Gliese 12 in Pisces, 40 light-years away.
  • Gliese 12b, similar in size to Earth or Venus, has a mass 3.87 times that of Earth and orbits its star every 12.8 days.
  • It receives 1.6 times more energy than Earth and has an estimated surface temperature of 107°F (42°C)

6.Delhi is the highest-ranked Indian city at 350th in Oxford Economics’ Global Cities Index.

New York ranks 1st, followed by London, San Jose, Tokyo, and Paris.

  • The index provides a holistic evaluation of the largest cities globally, covering 163 countries.
